Go to lucky Chinese food in fountain valley at brookhurst and Ellis. Obviously it’s not Costa Mesa but it’s not far and totally worth it. It’s cash only and usually a line but definitely the best around here.

A lot of good recommendations on this list already but if you are looking for that Szechwan spicy Chinese style cooking, I came across Kuan Zhai Alley next to Fukada last month.
I didn’t think much of it and tried it on a whim and it hit a craving I never thought I had. It’s numbing (in a good way), spicy, and delicious. My mouth is watering thinking about it. Highly recommended.

What kind of food do you prefer? Among Chinese restaurants, I always enjoy taking small groups to Meizhou Dongpo (on Culver Street in Irvine), as they have excellent food, a broad menu, and round tables good for conversation.

Hell no to capital seafood. Peking duck portion was small. They have/had fried Chilean sea bass- don’t need to say more.
China garden is okay. Has the ambiance and decent food. Delicious food corner has a causal ambiance but the food is surprisingly good.
Classic in Laguna Niguel is good and only a couple miles from the Spectrum

Laguna Hills - Classic Chinese, they have a wide variety of cantonese food to choose from. Better than the other cantonese food places in Irvine. They have roast duck but you may have to order in advance. No dim sum here though.
Beef noodle soup in irvine… I’d rank them He’s Noodle, bafang…

Every place that has been listed so far is cheap family style Chinese and no where you'd want to go for a date.
If you want to go to a classier place then go to Anqi at South Coast Plaza next to Bloomingdale's. For Dim Sum and a more "authentic" menu, but much busier and less stylish, then go right next door to Paradise Dynasty.
The food is terrific in both places
Check them both out.

IMO, all the chain steakhouses are overrated - Mortons, Ruths Chris, etc.
Not all of these are fancy sit-down places, but as far as the food itself goes, all are highly recommended.
Anaheim White House, Orange Hill Restaurant (technically not Anaheim, but very close), The Ranch, Roys, Okayama…

For Korean food: Yigah for their galbi tang, BCD Tofu for that late night fried fish corvina or marinated raw crab craving) otherwise, gotta drive all the way to LA), Furai Chicken for old school Korean fried chicken, Chan Chan if you only like the drumsticks or wings, Past Memories for seafood…

Can't go wrong with any of the Chinese restaurants in Orange Tree Square Shopping Center (Walnut and Jeffrey, where 99 Ranch is), and across the street in the Arbor Village Shopping Center, there's A&J.

A&J for Chinese food. Go further to Costa Mesa for Din tai fung for higher end soup dumplings.

Do you have a particular genre you like? Here are my favorites in a few different categories, obviously I’m biased. I’m listing restaurants technically in Irvine, but neighboring areas like Tustin (Yellow Chili), Costa Mesa (Din Tai Fung, Butcher’s House Brasserie), Lake Forest etc are worth…

I live in LA, so not an expert by any means, but my faves when I’m visiting family in OC are Ma’s Chinese in Placentia — a Muslim/Uighur Chinese place with really unique (and delicious) flavors, and Cham Soot Gol kbbq in Garden Grove (this one I’m guessing is actually fairly well known).
