In general, the restaurants in Newport are not great. For a steakhouse, there is Oceans 48 (at fashion island), ok enough food, aims to present as upscale. But not nearly as good as Alexanders (Pasadena). IMO, the steak at Selanne (Laguna) is generally better, but the vibe is more low-key / old…

Lucky boy’s in Pasadena on Arroyo is the best and the closest I have found to it in OC is Troy’s. People rave about Pepe’s, was not my cup of tea. Cyrano’s Cafe is very good; but $$.
